Nicolas Cage buys mammoth knife

Nicolas Cage spent $2,000 on a mammoth ivory-handled knife.
The actor made a visit to the Northern Knives shop in Anchorage, Alaska, on Wednesday when the pricey blade caught his eye.
According to TMZ, the Kick-Ass star asked the shopkeeper if he could look at the Don Dezarn original knife which as well as having a handle made from the tusks of the prehistoric mammal also has a design of a bald eagle engraved into the 4-inch blade.
Although the knife is really a decorative piece, Cage apparently plans to use it for eating steak.
The 47-year-old star is known for collecting oddities and has spent a small fortune on his penchant for strange items.
Cage once splashed out $276,000 on a 67-million-year-old dinosaur skull and over the years has purchased items including an octopus, several dead stuffed bats and a rock from the planet Mars.
“I once bought a piece of meteorite. It landed in Nigeria in 1962 and has been authenticated by NASA as a rock from Mars. It’s three million years old and fascinates me,” he has said.
“I like to collect things: an octopus, the snakes, dead bats, human skulls. I study and involve myself completely in something totally different. It is part of what I do as an actor so it’s not unusual that I do this in my private life.”
Cage owes just under $14 million in unpaid taxes and fees to the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) for the years 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007.
