Diane Kruger can’t master a Scottish accent.
The German-born actress who portrays a French-speaking journalist in new movie Special Forces can generally get to grips with any dialect but the unique tone of the people from Scotland has always left her flummoxed.
“I’m afraid to try the Scottish accent. Oh my God that would be hard,” she said.
“It’s all a matter of rehearsal. You can learn any accent you want. It’s a fascinating thing.”
The 35-year-old star who currently spends the majority of her time with boyfriend Joshua Jackson in Los Angeles never wanted to be “typecast” as one particular nationality, which encouraged her to perfect as many languages as possible.
“I always said that was my big dream as an actor; to be between two chairs. I never wanted to be typecast as a nationality,” Diane explained.
“This does have the result of consistently having to do more work for a role, to be able to speak without an accent in English, to be able to speak with all different kinds of accents playing other nationalities or when I speak in French or German.”
